Augustus Caesar would come to power at the start of what is now known as Pax Romana (latin for Roman Peace). This period of time would last for almost 200 years. During this period of time the Roman Empire was the most powerful, most influential, and most culturally complex civilization in the world.
Augustus Caesar would during his rule create a large army, conquer new lands and add them to the Roman Empire, and build new roads, and monuments throughout the whole empire. He would establish the legacy that all emperors that came after him would try to follow, which includes further gaining more power for the Roman Empire. After Augustus's death, many other other emperor's would leave their mark on the history of the Roman Empire, and not always in a good way. They included Nero, who would have killed anyone he didn't like and would eventually commit suicide to avoid being killed by his soldiers, Trajan, who oversaw the expansion of the Roman Empire through military conquest, Hadrian, who would have a wall built in modern day Britain to keep the nomdic tribes that lived there from invading Roman lands, and Marcus Aurelius, who would maintain peace in the empire througout his entire reign. During this period of Pax Romana, the culture of Rome would spread to all corners of the empire. Latin would become the official language, and be taught everywhere, riches constantly be flooding into the empire, and the lands aquired by the empire would be give to its riches citizens, making them more rich and influential. Pax Romana would be seen as the height of the Roman Empire. During this 200 year period, not only would the influence of the empire exapnd, but its culture would again evolve. Ideas, and technologies found in the lands conquered by Rome would eventually be added to Roman culture. Advancements in science, mathmatics, philosphy, and architecture would be part of the lasting legacy of the Roman Empire. |
